Greetings Little Cedars’ Families,
This is Lew Dickert, principal of Little Cedars Elementary School. I am contacting you to welcome you back, or welcome you to your first year at Little Cedars. I hope that you have had a wonderful summer and that you are looking forward to the start of the school year! At Little Cedars, our staff is working hard to prepare for the 2014/2015 school year to begin on September 3rd.
I am calling, and emailing, our families to inform them of a procedural change that is taking place this year. We will be sending individual placement letters to every home, one per student, on Monday, August 25th. The placement letter will include your child's name, the teacher's name, and their room number. Class lists will be posted on classroom doors for Thursday afternoon's meet the teacher event.
We are maintaining the same schedule for Thursday afternoon that has been posted on the Little Cedar’s web site. That schedule indicates that students with last names from “A” through “M” will drop off supplies and visit classrooms from 1:30 to 2:00. Students with last names from “N” through “Z” can visit the classroom, and drop off supplies, between 2:15 and 2:45. Please be aware that I have scheduled a brief staff meeting for LCE teachers at 3:00. Our PTA will be on campus on Thursday to answer questions and recruit new members.
Hopefully this procedural change will help balance out the manner in which students learn of their class/teacher assignment and reduce the tension around the “back to school process”. Please recognize that your child does not need to bring supplies on the afternoon of the 28th. In fact, some families may decide that they will wait until September 3rd to return to the Little Cedars campus.
I can't wait to meet you, and I’m looking forward to serving the Little Cedars community for years to come!
Our Meet Your Teacher Event will be divided into two sessions to minimize the crowded parking situation. It isn't possible to accommodate everyone at the same time. If you are in the first session, please be mindful of the parking needs of those coming for session two and be sure to leave on time. We thank you in advance for keeping an eye on the time.
Class lists are still being discussed how they will be distributed. We will let you know the week of August 18.
Students with last names A-M and morning kindergarten are invited to come and meet their teacher from 1:30 to 2 p.m.
Students wth last names N-Z are invited to come from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m.
We encourage you to bring your child's school supplies with you when you come so that they can be put away in their desks and are ready for the first day of school.
A school bus will be on site for our younger students.
We are encouraging our families who live near the school to walk to the event or park at Glacier Peak High School.

Our fundamental purpose is to create a student-centered learning community that welcomes everyone as we educate students to live in a democracy.
If your child is going to be absent or arriving late to school, please call our Absentee Reporting Line at 360-563-2920. For your convenience, this is a 24-hour attendance message line.
Parents, volunteers and visitors are always welcome at Little Cedars. When entering the campus, please sign in at the front desk in the office and pick up a visitor identification badge to wear. You can drop it off in the office when you sign out.
A completed Volunteer Application Packet is required for any field trip chaperone or person volunteering in a classroom at Little Cedars. This packet includes a Washington State Patrol I.D. check. A packet can be obtained in the office and is good for two years.
