Elementary 4/5/6 Highly Capable Program - January 30 application deadline

Snohomish School District students who will be in the 4th through 6th grade next school year and are interested in participating in the district’s 4-6 Elementary Highly Capable Program can be referred from Monday, December 1, to Friday, January 30, for the 2026-2027 school year.

Indicators may come from classroom-based assessments, CogAT scores along with parent/guardian and/or teacher observations. Students who may be a candidate for highly capable services are those who exhibit some of the following characteristics: 

  • Learns more rapidly and easily than their peers 
  • Offers original and imaginative responses 
  • Has extensive vocabulary 
  • Asks many questions 
  • Has a sophisticated sense of humor 

Snohomish School District students currently in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade can be referred and participate in this window. To be considered for 4-6 Highly Capable Program services, forms must be submitted through ParentSquare or a hardcopy of the forms returned to your home school by Friday, January 30. Paper packets in English, Spanish, and Russian will be available at your school’s office.

  • Referral window: December 1 through January 30, 2026
  • Student CogAT testing: Late February through March 2026
  • Multidisciplinary Placement Committee identification meeting: April 2026
  • Decision letters mailed to families: May 2026
  • Acceptance and appeal deadline for families: June 12, 2026
  • Services begin: Fall 2026

Note: Students already identified for the 4/5/6 elementary Highly Capable Program do not need to participate in the referral process. Students identified for the K-3 Highly Capable Program only need to participate in the referral and identification process to be considered for the 4/5/6 Highly Capable Program service. You will receive more information from your principal.
